Race with us. SVSA’s alpine program provides world class training and racing opportunities to young ski racers of all abilities. Our racing program builds on over 40 years of experience and success. 

CROSS-COUNTRY

Stride with us. The Sun Valley cross country program is one of the most sophisticated and successful junior programs in the country. Alumni routinely ski for the best college programs and have competed and thrived at the highest levels of competition.

FREESTYLE

Fly with us. SVSA freestyle skiers have access to a private competition mogul course, as well as Sun Valley's superpipe and terrain park.

SNOWBOARDING

Ride with us. Snowboard team training covers all aspects riding, including freestyle, halfpipe, freeride, alpine, and boardercross.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN SVSA ATHLETE

What's it like to live, study, and train at SVSA? The sample schedule below is based on the schedule of one of our boarding student-athletes, Jesse. Jesse is a cross-country skier from Jackson Hole, WY. She is currently in her senior year.


Wednesday, Fall Term


6:30am    Alarm goes off. Breakfast  (eggs and ham) at Residence Hall.

7:00am    Strength training at Lake Creek Hut.

8:40am    School starts. Advisor meetings.

8:50am    Ecology. Field course; explore Trail Creek’s riparian ecosystem.

9:40am    Spanish. Present virtual tour of Montevideo, Uruguay.

10:30am  Free period. Hang out and study with friends in student lounge.

11:20am  Wilderness Navigation. Prepare for upcoming orienteering race.

12:05pm  Lunch on quad. Class dodgeball tournament, seniors vs. teachers! (Go seniors!)

12:35pm  Law and Lit. Discuss Robert  Frost’s “Carpe Diem.”

1:25pm    History of the Oppressed. Debate central themes presented in “Waiting for Superman.”

2:15pm    Honors Calculus. Learn and practice chain rule.

3:00pm    School ends. Meet with art teacher to share idea for tomorrows’ class project.

3:30pm    Meet at Lake Creek Hut for distance skate rollerski

6:00pm    Wax skis...we'll be on-snow soon!

6:30pm    Dinner at Residence Hall with visiting day students: Grilled Chicken with Rice and Roasted Veggies

7:30pm    Study Hall

9:30pm    Hang out with roomate

10:30pm   Lights out 

JONNA MENDES JOINS SVSA AS DIRECTOR OF RECRUITING

SVSA is pleased to welcome US Ski Team Alum Jonna Mendes to our team as Director of Recruiting. Jonna is a two-time Olympian (1998 Nagano and 2002 Salt Lake City), and four-time National Champion (Downhill and Giant Slalom).
