Cross Country

The SVSEF Junior Academy Team provides participants the opportunity to be a part of Sun Valley’s Comp program while attending school at Community School. Ski Academy participants train and travel as part of SVSEF’s Comp Team including training camps and competitions and will have access to SVSEF’s training center which includes strength, wax, and locker facilities. Many of the academy students live locally but the Ski Academy’s residential program offers student-athletes from outside the area the chance to experience all that Sun Valley has to offer. Living in the comfort and convenience of the residence hall, located at the base of Mt. Baldy. Academy athletes may choose to arrive at the beginning of the academic year or may arrive earlier to participate in dryland and on-snow camps. The SVSEF Cross Country program has many attributes, some of which include:

  • Training in the Sun Valley area, which was designated by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee as an official Olympic Nordic training site. This designation was awarded to Sun Valley on the basis of the area’s exceptional nordic facilities and programming.
  • The SVSEF cross country team is one of the most successful winter sports clubs in the United States having been recognized four times as USSA’s Club of the Year.
  • The Sun Valley area, also know as Nordic Town U.S.A. is recognized as one of the premier nordic communities in the world. Over 200 km of ski trails are groomed by pisten bully and offer a complete array of trail profiles for all training needs.
  • We consistently offer dependable snow conditions often including the earliest skiing in the United States on our local trail system.
  • Our Lake Creek Cross Country Team Center offers everything a skier needs; strength gym, wax room, athlete lockers and bathrooms situated on our own FIS Homologated Race Trails.
  • In addition to our regular season training, we host multiple training camps,  through both dryland and summer glacier opportunities. Many training sessions are alongside our SVSEF Gold Team, which provides the opportunity to train with some of the best skiers in the U.S.
  • We consider ourselves to have an ideal training environment with perfect altitude for developing maximal aerobic capacities.
  • Every year, we have ready access to national level races both in our Community and within the Intermountain Division. Our community organizes numerous cross country ski races including U.S. Super Tours, IMD Divisional races, and the ever popular Boulder Mountain Tour along with a comprehensive summer event schedule that includes mountain and road bike races and running events.
  • Our local populace embraces cross country skiing as a core cultural value. Each year we host a year-long nordic festival and over 3,000 locals annually purchase trail passes in support of our trail system.
